Tom Clancy's The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop as a Brutally Tactical TTRPG
The intense universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division is being adapted into a tabletop role-playing experience. A collaboration has been formed to create a tabletop RPG that explores the series' post-pandemic setting. The project has been announced, with a funding drive planned to begin in the spring of 2026.
"This project aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the tabletop, offering fans a new way to experience The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," states an announcement.
Initial offerings are set to feature a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a Game Master screen, figurines, and several premium versions.
Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World
In this setting, a deadly virus called Green Poison was released in NYC, plunging the United States into chaos. As the pandemic worsens, society crumbles and hostile groups rise, transforming the urban landscape into a battlefield. To restore law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of sleeper agents. This is where the players enter the story.
Work on the game has been underway for approximately several years, and it is reportedly complete. The upcoming crowdfunding effort will function as a preorder system to reach a broader audience, particularly in the United States. Production is slated to begin immediately following the fundraiser, with shipping expected for the latter part of 2026.
An Innovative Tactical System: The GRIS System
An early look at the system confirms it uses d10s predominantly through its proprietary GRIS system, promoting a fast-paced and strategic style. Agents use skills or traits to assemble a handful of dice, usually from one to five d10s.
- Instead of adding results together, participants select a single “result die” from the pool.
- This dice is then measured against a target difficulty.
- Achieving a natural 10 grants special effects, such as increased harm or boosted support.
Combat Focus On Tactical Placement and Awareness
Battles prioritize placement and situational awareness, mirroring the source material. Factors like taking cover, height advantage, or line of sight directly influence success chances. This system seems built to reward coordination and smart positioning over simple statistics.
A Thematic Wound System
The way injuries is tracked adds a interesting thematic twist. Operatives have a injury limit; sustaining too much damage weakens their effectiveness by decreasing the size of their dice pool.
- At zero health, an operative collapses, but is not unconscious.
- They can still crawl and take limited actions, simulating the "downed" state seen in many shooter games.
- Any agent in this state must roll on a trauma table, risking lingering conditions like shock or mobility-impairing wounds.
A Ready-to-Play Scenario
A free introductory rulebook is promised soon. It includes a pre-made introductory scenario titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, players lead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an attack by the notorious Rikers gang, who have seized control of that Manhattan district. Further information and the full range of offerings will be unveiled closer to the campaign launch.
