The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
