The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It features the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears stunning. However, I felt that something was missing in the song choice.

The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a great sentimental option, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its tone is a little off.

Of course, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have some surprises and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
