The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
