Baroque Works is set to exert significant influence in the forthcoming season on Netflix of One Piece, although the true confrontation won’t unfold until the next season, and a cherished, fan-favorite member has now been chosen.
The streaming service revealed Tuesday that the skilled actor is now part of the One Piece season 3 cast and will embody Bentham. This character possesses the power to morph into an perfect replica of anyone they’ve made contact with with their dominant hand. The actor, who is gender non-conforming and goes by they/them, will depict a version of that character reinterpreted as non-binary identifying, instead of as a drag performer, in the real-life adaptation, unlike the source material and animated series.
The new cast member is joined by multiple fresh additions tasked with bringing the organization to reality, such as head Sir Crocodile, played by Joe Manganiello, a talented actress as Miss Goldenweek, and an accomplished actor, who also joins the cast as the monarch of Alabasta.
Even though Bon Clay is a major member of the group, the persona won’t make their debut One Piece the third season. With season 2 set to cover the Little Garden storyline, this represents a major departure in the timing of the character’s debut, one that could suggest further changes to the story’s structure.
The actor’s combination of sharp comedic timing and emotional depth makes them a perfect fit for the character. Besides their recent voice performance in the animated feature Boys Go to Jupiter, they received high praise and numerous honors for penning and acting in the hit comedy play Oh Mary!, emphasizing the range they’ll add to one of One Piece’s widely praised roles.
