A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country struggling with rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old entertainer was confronted by three individuals, one of whom began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.

The motive of the shooting is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, as per the official statement.

The Fatal Incident

Authorities revealed that Stock was attacked as he was leaving a building close to the city center landmark.

He had devoted time at the site supervising the installation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by squatters, as per local media.

"Authorities believe the deceased was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," an official report said.

Security camera video showed a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what resembled a security uniform shooting on Stock before running away.

The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.

Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the attack.

Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were recovered from the crime scene.

Appeal for Witnesses

Authorities have requested members of the public who may have seen the suspects to come forward.

"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the attack, and police have been tracking them to find their location," stated a police chief.

His family member, Nicole Stock, expressed the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.

"Words fail me. I don't have words," were her words.
"It is clear he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about subjects not many people were willing to speak about. This is a tremendous loss."

She appealed to the public to avoid sharing disturbing footage from the scene, explaining this was an deeply traumatic time, particularly for Stock's young family.
