Recreational competitors are being offered an opportunity to earn one million Australian dollars when they face elite players - featuring leading player Carlos Alcaraz - in a winner-takes-all point leading up to the Australian Grand Slam

Tournament officials of the year's first Grand Slam have unveiled the Seven-Figure Quick-Fire Competition, which will match a dozen non-professionals against 22 professionals in a single-elimination format at the tournament grounds

This Innovative Event Will Work

Participants must play 'the decision-making game' to decide who takes the serve or return position, and the competitor securing the point will progress to the next round

The victor of the event will earn a significant cash prize

By comparison, players who reached the final four of the primary tournaments in the last edition won substantial prize money

The New York major organized a redesigned, independent mixed doubles tournament in the eighth month which prompted top singles players to compete, with the winners receiving one million US dollars

The Australian Open held its inaugural One Point Slam earlier this year, but the cash prize was A$60,000 and it had limited exposure

Planners have not detailed exactly how the event will operate, but it is expected to follow a comparable structure to the previous version

The top competitors will be granted to have a single serve and the everyday players two times - as is the standard practice in standard play

While it is not certain how the pairings will work, there will be five knockout rounds and the site will be the main stadium rather than the alternative court

The concluding rounds will be held in a night session instead of midday timing

Participation Details

Any Australians - or international players who have enrolled with the national federation - can enter 'quick-match event' competitions at their community centers

The champions of the community events will then go into a selection process, with a single non-professional from every geographic division picked to take part in the 'championship round' in a nighttime event on Wednesday, 14 January

There will also be a qualifying draw in the final month which everyday players, lower ranked pros, celebrities and sports personalities can compete in

It commences on the starting date and the successful competitors will advance to Wednesday's 'grand finale' with the remaining non-professionals and 10 professionals

"No matter your experience, the final champion will receive the award. Entries will begin shortly at clubs nationwide"

Tournament officials stated there were "additional stars to be announced soon", while the event portal indicated "celebrities" would be taking part
